The Miko “Salvage Kit” provides the salvor with a set of tools allowing him to patch openings even if the damaged area consists of cracks and ruptures with sharp edges. It can even cover un-even surfaces, protrutions and indents. The obvious advantages are fast response at low cost. To further increase the already high strength characteristic and to avoid stress concentrations, aluminium bars are provided that distribute the loads.
Custom made patches If a vessel has grounded, a customised patch is often required. To assist in selecting an optimised package Miko has developed a “Questionnaire” to assist the divers involved to determine the required sizes, shapes and associated tools. As time often is a critical factor, material is pre-stocked and our manufacturing team is flexible to provide those tools as fast as possible. As an example Miko received such enquiry on Christmas Eve and supplied a complete package in New York harbour on the 28th of December. The package included two pcs Hat Shaped Miko Plaster® 25,0 x 1,5 m and 5,0 x 1,5 m. Equipment requiering special considerations are often pre-stock at agents and other strategic locations.

Characteristics of the salvage patch 1. The geometry of the “Hat Shape” Miko Plaster® eliminates stresses to be built up by allowing the patch to follow the geometry of the damaged area. 2. The patch is reinforced by Kevlar / Aramide. (Similar material used in “bullet proof vests”. Normally 2 layers verses 9 layers in a bullet-proof vests) 3. The patch is secured to the hull by “stapling” an aluminium frame around the edges of the patch using the UW tool HD 200. A fastener is used approx. every 30 cm (1 ft) 4. The patch is supported by a liner along the edge allowing the patch to “rest” against the alumiumprofile avoiding stress-concentrations and risk of rupture in the area where the fastener penetrates the patch. 5. The Miko Plaster® is easily positioned and temporary secured by using magnets (ref. page 9 for details). The Miko Plaster® is the secured to the hull for voyages (to permanent repair yard) by “stapling” special aluminium profiles to the hull using the Underwater Tool HD 200. (ref. item 3 and 4 above and photograph on page 24) The squeezed rubber sealing between the alumiminium-profile/patch side and the damaged hull area, provides a very good sealing.
